The Welsh Highland Railway Society

The Welsh Highland Railway Society was formed to support and to take a leading role in the restoration and operation of the Welsh Highland Railway.  The railway is a 120 year old dream whose time has come at last: a narrow gauge railway to carry people through the mountains and passes of the heart of Snowdonia, linking Caernarfon with Porthmadog.

Restoring the Welsh Highland is one of the biggest and most exciting tasks that the railway preservation movement has ever tackled. It will be the longest heritage railway in Britain, and one of the best. At one with its wonderful surroundings, it will bring people to and through the district without despoiling it. It is exciting; it is bold; it is visionary.
