Elections 2012:

At our meeting and AGM on 15th. March, it was announced that Mark Neilson would retire as Chairman of the Group, after serving more than 13 years in the role. Our sincere thanks to Mark, who remains as Membership Secretary and Social Secretary.

All best wishes to the following, who were either elected or re-elected on to the Committee:
  • Ian King, the Society Treasurer, who is now our Chairman and Secretary.

  • Michael Roberts replaces Ian King as Group Treasurer. He has an enviable background in the financial sector

  • Dr. Stephen Sullivan, a retired English Master, is our new Newsletter Editor replacing Richard Watson who retires after editing the newsletter for more than 10 years.

  • Richard Watson remains on the Committee in his roles of Publicity Officer and Projects Coordinator.

Meetings: 

The East Anglian Group meets at the The Six Bells Pub, 9 High Street, Fulbourn, Cambridge CB21 5DH. We gather on the third Thursday of the month during the meetings “season” (October to May inclusive). Good food is available in the bar. We generally get together after 6.30 p.m. for a pint and a “natter”, and the meetings start at 8.00 p.m. There is usually a half-way break and we finish around 10.00 p.m.

Meetings Calendar:


  • Thursday May 17th. **  Jon Marsh, the well known producer of excellent DVDs on many railway subjects, makes a welcome return with a programme of narrow gauge and other railway footage, entitled “Steam in the Blood”.

    ** Please note: Important (temporary) change of venue: Meet at the "Six Bells" Fulbourn as usual between 6.30pm until approx 7.45pm for a pint and some nosh. We then go to the Townley Memorial Hall (approx 5 minutes' walk) for the meeting which will begin as usual at 8.00pm

  • Sunday June 3rd. Visit to Cambridge Museum of Technology, The Old Pumping Station, Cheddars Lane, Cambridge, CB5 8LD. Steam–up day including steam rope hauled narrow gauge incline. Meet at the gates at 11.00 a.m., admission charge. http://www.museumoftechnology.com/ for further

Activities: The group are very active with volunteering projects both in the locality and at the railway itself.  See our Group reports

EAG Commitee meetingIn the past we have visited places like the Bure Valley Railway,  the Cleethorpes Coast, and Mike Schumann's Norton Hill Light Railway and the Audley End Miniature Railway 

Current projects:  
Rebuilding of two ex- RNAD 4w wagons with vacuum brakes as a Lineside Clearance Train
